Prisoners Literature Project

My love for the work PLP does centers around my values for abolitionist Black feminist teachings, mental healthcare as crime prevention, and empathy for marginalized communities.

I am moved by the letters we receive from prisoners requesting books on trauma or starting a business; letters thanking other volunteers by name for changing their life while behind bars with a particularly keen book selection; the intersection of my love for books and for introvert-friendly volunteer roles.

As a volunteer at Prisoners Literature Project, I select books based on prisoners’ handwritten requests and respond with a note behind the selections and words of support and encouragement.

My volunteer experiences fuel my passion for moving into an industry that does measurable and concrete good in marginalized communities. I’m ready to have a career that allows me to use my strength in empathizing with others and helping them realize their potential.
