Every year, New York University hosts Welcome Week for new first year, transfer, and visiting students. Welcome Week sets the crucial initial impression new students have on the time they will spend at NYU. My third and final year designing Welcome Week, I developing the branding for 2017 before I left. (Note that while I concepted and built the visual identity, a different designer continued the project after my departure. What appears below are the designs I worked on). The theme for NYU Welcome Week 2017 is “abstract future” with the tagline “Your future starts here.” The goal of this forward-facing theme is to evoke emotions of excitement, hopefulness, and wonderment towards an incoming student’s next 4 years at NYU through a dreamlike and surreal representation of a futuristic New York City campus.
